Collette's County Kerry Custom Wedding Gown
Collette and Ryan celebrated their wedding in County Kerry, Ireland. They brought their closest friends and family to Westcove House, a magical bed and breakfast right on the coast. The week leading up to the wedding was full of well planned festivities, excursions, lots of singing, and pub visits.
When Collette and I started brainstorming her custom wedding gown, she shared wonderful ideas. She loved a high neckline and delicate details like buttons and pockets. Knowing the location would likely be a little dewy and full of hills, she wanted a no-nonsense gown that would be easy to wear around the Irish coastline.
Collette was drawn to lace and the matte silk crepe that feels like butter to the touch and drapes beautifully. Once we knew what the dress would look like, I began creating the pattern.
By creating a pattern mock up, Collette was able to see exactly how the dress would look on her. I did some tailoring to make sure things fit perfectly. I checked how high the pockets were, how snug it fit through the bodice, and how the skirt swayed when she walked.
Once the mock up was fitted properly, I began working with our silks and lace fabric. We hand stitched lace throughout the bodice and into the skirt. Collette came in with her mother, Julene, and a few close friends for fittings. We all watched the idea of Collette’s dress go from vision, to sketch, to mock up, to gown.
Collette and her husband Ryan are dear friends. I will always cherish being a small part of their wedding.
