Let me bend your ear about this beautiful custom bride…

Amy is a Minnesota natural light photographer. She specializes in weddings and capturing those candid bright moments on a couples’ special day. She is SOOOOO good at it. When you look at Amy’s work, you feel like you were at every wedding she shoots.

I had the privilege of working on a project with her one winter. Shortly after our project ended, Amy gave me some very juicy news. She and her fiance were planning a surprise wedding for the fall. They were going to invite friends and family to a faux engagement party. Once the guests arrived they would be surprised to learn that they were actually attending Amy and Zack’s wedding! Amy took the surprise one step further and asked me to design her wedding dress. Friends and family would be out of the loop on this very classified custom design project. We began our secret mission with sketching and dreaming.

We began our secret mission with sketching and dreaming. It was a romantic gown with bishop sleeves. The skirt had layers of tulle for the perfect ethereal look. Not afraid of a little color, Amy chose soft brown netting to layer underneath the ivory tulle to create an iridescence to the skirt. The effect on camera looks like a silvery gray. It was an absolutely beautiful unique look.

Amy picked out some beautiful laces that we layered for a multidimensional look. Often times when I am hand stitching lace, I will send updated images of my pinning and planning to my custom brides so they can see the progress. After one of my emails to Amy, she said something that will keep me laughing for many years of dressmaking. As she described how much lace she wanted, Amy said, "weird comparison: think cinnamon roll, when you ice it, the icing drips along the side...can't believe I compared my dress to a cinnamon roll! Well, it's heavenly and delicious so they have that in common!"

Once all the lace was hand stitched, Amy took home a dress that was as sweet and warm as she is. I can only hope that she had as wonderful a day as she captures for her clients. I think Studio KH did a pretty good job! :)
